Laparoscopic placement of a gastrostomy tube
This video demonstrates my new technique for placement of a gastrostomy tube. This was a 81 years old female with recent dementia who was unable to eat and had evidence of malnutrition and therefore required a gastrostomy tube for entral feeding through stomach.
Laparoscopic placement of a gastrostomy tube procedure
This procedure was performed under anesthesia with laparoscopic technique through 4 small incisions and took only 60 minutes. After the laparoscopic surgery patient was able to be fed through the gastrostomy and was discharged from the hospital the next day. Laparoscopic and robotic techniques decrease the post-operative pain and recovery time and overall has less risk and complications especially for higher risk older population.
