Robotic Surgery eliminating the laparoscopic limitations.
Robotic surgery has introduced a very attractive alternative for minimally invasive surgery by eliminating the laparoscopic limitations. The dual camera system allows better visualization and restores the surgeon’s depth of vision. The wristed instrumentations also allow the better access and more precise dissection especially during complex surgical procedures.
The built-in safety features and filtering system also allow the surgeons to perform the difficult tasks with more precision. But the most important aspect of robotic system in the new era of surgery is that it offers a platform to combine other modalities including advanced imaging during surgical procedure which could have an unlimited potential of advancement in minimally invasive surgery.
I started performing robotic surgery in 2012 and just like many other experienced laparoscopic surgeons, I was skeptical at first. But since then, I have been pleased, and at times amazed, of how this robotic platform has helped my patients and improved my outcomes. The advantages of robotic platform include better visualization, improved depth of vision, improved access, wristed instrumentations and the ability to do more precise dissection is undeniable in my hands.
For me the advantages have been so superior that I have completely switched my minimally invasive inguinal hernia repair to robotic approach. The application of the robotic platform has allowed me to offer minimally invasive inguinal hernia repair to most of my patients regardless of their age, gender, size and co-morbidities with outstanding results.
