Robotic Assisted TAPP Ventral Hernia Repair with Mesh
For a long time, repairing the ventral hernia and diastasis recti required open surgical intervention with large mid-line abdominal incision, creation of large skin flap to approximate the mid-line muscle structures and reinforce the closure with mesh. That was associated with severe post-operative pain, long recovery, large mid-line scar and more potential for wound complications. Robotic platform has offered another alternative. In this video the ventral hernia and diastasis recti has been repaired with robotic assisted trans-abdominal pre-peritoneal technique. The operation was performed through four small incisions on the lateral side of the abdominal wall and the ventral hernia and diastasis recti were closed primarily and reinforced with mesh in the pre-peritoneal space. This technique eliminated the mid-line scar, was associated with much less pain, faster recovery and less post-operative wound complications. Dr Iraniha hernia specialist performed the surgery in an outpatient basis and the patient required a few days of pain medication and resumed his heavy activity and exercise in 6 weeks.
