Laparoscopic & Robotic news
For a long time, repairing the ventral hernia and diastasis recti required open surgical intervention with large mid-line abdominal incision, creation of large skin flap to approximate the mid-line muscle structures and reinforce the closure with mesh. That was associated with severe post-operative pain, long recovery, large mid-line scar and more potential for wound complications.
This is a 65 year old male with history of a bulge in the left groin with on and off pain and discomfort during straining and heavy activity. Patient underwent a robotic assisted repair of inguinal hernia with placement of 3 D mesh. Patient was taken to the operating room and underwent a general anesthesia and placed in the lithotomy position.
What is Laparoscopic? Laparoscopic surgery is performing the surgical task with special instruments and guidance of a camera through small abdominal incisions. Is Biliary Dyskinesia, true or false? More than 10% of patients with gallbladder disease have negative ultrasound with no evidence of gall stones. Most of these patients suffer biliary dyskinesia and unfortunately do not get diagnosed for a long time or undergo medical management with little or no response. Biliary dyskinesia is a functional disease…
Robotic Surgery eliminating the laparoscopic limitations. Robotic surgery has introduced a very attractive alternative for minimally invasive surgery by eliminating the laparoscopic limitations. The dual camera system allows better visualization and restores the surgeon’s depth of vision. The wristed instrumentations also allow the better access and more precise dissection especially during complex surgical procedures. The…
