Dr Iraniha Laparoscopic Technique for Placement of a Gastrostomy Tube
This is a 61 years male patient with multiple admissions to the hospital for aspiration pneumonia due to inability to swallow. He failed swallow study and therefore required a feeding tube. An attempt for an endoscopic surgery guided percutaneous placement of the gastrostomy tube by gastroenterologist was unsuccessful.
This video demonstrates the laparoscopic technique for placement of a gastrostomy tube. The robotic surgery procedure was less than one hour and the enteral feeding through the new gastrostomy tube was started in the following day with no difficulty. Obviously, the advantages of laparoscopic surgery compare to the open technique was less pain, less hospital stay and faster recovery.
