Laparoscopic removal of a toothpick from the large intestine by Dr Iraniha
This is a 56 years old male who presented to the emergency room with three days history of persistent right lower quadrant abdominal pain, fever and an abdominal wall bulge in the right side of his abdomen.Dr Iraniha robotic surgery expert obtained a CT scan to evaluate the patient’s abdominal pain.
The patient physical exam was consistent with a 5 cm soft tissue bulge in the right lower quadrant with significant tenderness on palpation. His CT scan showed thickening of the right colon with significant inflammatory reaction in the right lower quadrant extending to the abdominal wall, containing air, fluid and a sharp foreign body. Patient denied ingesting any sharp foreign object!
The patient underwent a diagnostic laparoscopy and found to have a sharp foreign body (Toothpick) perforated the right colon, penetrated to the abdominal wall and created an abdominal wall abscess. The Laparoscopic removal of a toothpick video demonstrates the surgical finding as well as minimally invasive management of this surgical problem.
