Robotic assisted inguinal and femoral hernia in a female patient by Dr Iraniha
This is a 50 years old female who presented with a left groin bulge with on and off pain and discomfort during activity and exercise. Initially she was found to have left inguinal hernia on her physical examination. This video demonstrates the robotic assisted left inguinal hernia repair with mesh. During the robotic exploration of the left groin region, an incidental left femoral hernia was also identified and repaired simultaneously.
Robotic assisted left inguinal hernia repair technique
There would have been much higher probability for the femoral hernia to be missed if this patient were to be operated for left inguinal hernia by open technique. The robotic surgery approach allowed the surgeon to diagnose and treat the incidental femoral hernia in this patient and prevent the future hernia recurrence.
