Robotic assisted repair of recurrent right inguinal hernia with mesh by Dr Iraniha
This is a 52 year old male with history of right inguinal hernia repair 10 years ago who presented with a painful bulge in the right groin. Patient underwent a robotic assisted herni repair of recurrent right inguinal hernia with mesh. There was an evidence of recurrent right inguinal hernia on the most medial aspect of the pervious hernia repair with incarcerated pre-peritoneal fat in the hernia defect. The hernia surgery was started with creating a transverse peritoneal incision. Then the pre-peritoneal space was entered and peritoneal flap was created. There was significant scarring around the hernia defect due to previous hernia repair, however, the enhanced visualization and superior wristed instrumentation of the robotic platform allowed Dr iraniha Robotic Surgery Expert to perform a very precise dissection in this region.
The advantage of the Robotic Surgery
This hernia surgery video demonstrates the advantage of the robotic surgery in patient with recurrent hernia. The hernia sac and the incarcerated fat were reduced from the hernia defect and the dissection was continued in four directions to create an adequate pre-peritoneal space for placement of the mesh. A 3 D mesh was inserted and placed in the pre-peritoneal space and sutured to the muscle medially to cover the defect. Special medical adhesive was sprayed to facilitate the attachment of the mesh in position. The peritoneal defect was then closed. Patient was discharged in the same day and was followed up two and six weeks after the hernia surgery and found to have no complication or recurrence. The pain was reported as minimal, requiring pain medication for just for initial two days. Patient went back to normal activity and heavy exercise six weeks after the surgery with no pain or discomfort.
